2. Recycling

Since we started recycling cans, bottles and newspapers in the 1970’s, the volume of waste has grown.  We still recycle cans, bottle, and newspapers, but it has not slowed the dramatic increase of garbage.

Follow up:

Recycling bottles, cans, and newspapers is fundamental, but it is not cutting edge, by far.  We should have returnable containers.  This is a no-brainer.

In the past 35 years, since recycling started, waste generation has doubled.
